The UAC equipment is probably stuff dropped by other marines while fighting the demons, or stuff they dropped while being zombies, OR the demons themselves took some them either as trophies, or maybe just out of some weird curiosity.
The powerups are condensed devil magicks and human souls crystalizing and forming near all that freaky hell shit.

Don't worry so much about it. Play Doom as you see fit. Some people just use autosaves at the start of a level and try to make it through in one go, some do it classic DOS style which means they lose all their shit and pistol start on death, and others savescum their brains out.

This all hinges on the player, not the game. The fact you're spending this much time worrying over it is a misstep, honestly. Go shoot the demons, get some keycards, hump walls.

It's all good anon, shit gets mixed up sometimes. Personally I'm okay with pistol starts and self imposed challenges for all the classic shooters. I just wish Doom's default pistol wasn't so awful, Duke 3D's pistol is a pretty reliable sidearm that doesn't eat into ripper ammo, so it's a pretty solid choice.

I like Doom mods that offer an option for pistol starts too.

The good:
-Maps 1,2,3 are really solid
-Maps 5,6,7 are the best and my favorite parts
-Atmosphere is top-notch
-Soundtrack is amazing
-Impressive the visuals accomplished with Doom's stock visuals, but the red cracks everywhere can get old
-Making do with the Shotgun and sparse ammo can be fun but...
The bad:
-Shotgunning Barons isn't fun
-Item placement for pistol starts seem to be an afterthought
-Chainguns are almost absent
-Maps 4,8 are kinda bad and dickish
-Secret level is okay-ish, with the cyberdemon fight elevating it above mediocre
-Nightmare is unplayable, whereas in vanilla Doom is insane, but doable

The highs are really highs, like Unspeakable Persecution(e5m6), and the lows are really low, like Paths of Wretchedness(e5m3) or the end to e5m8. I'd give a 8/10, wish there was more to it

oh yeah i'ts the first time I "organized" something like this so I'm pretty much playing it by ear
which is to say I barely know what I'm doing

the idea is to link all the maps I get into a main hub like AD does it, should be fairly simple, so that's what I'm going with

I didn't fall of the face of the earth I'm just a bit busy working on other things, keep in mind I cant help a lot with mapping questions since I'm a newbie myself

Look into ChubZdoomer's playlist on how to map, it's old but a lot of these lessons should still be applicable.

The biggest thing you should keep in mind is: Learn to take criticism, and push yourself to make shit better, don't expect your first couple maps to be amazing, or even good. Just keep making maps and practice your craft.
One thing I've learned from a friend that works good for maps: while you're playtesting your map, if you die at some point, go back into the editor and leave a marine corpse there, maybe some supplies like a stimpack or a bit of ammo.

I mean, I've discussed this before but /vr/ is starting to get worse, and the doom threads are suffering as well.
Only way we're gonna fix it is if we keep making worthwhile posts and we get folks making good content. Doesn't just have to be mods or maps, just funny or enjoyable OC and reaction images is nice too.
