I liked that the enemies in Shadow Warrior '13 were distinct in their roles and not all just a various dudes with guns, like many games of the time period, and that they would require differing strategies. I was really pissed at Shadow Warrior 2 dumbing down the gameplay extraordinarily (and particularly pissed that it's a cutrate Borderlands clone).

In part, like the concept of a young Lo Wang as a cringe Redditor nerd, because that makes it fun to laugh at him when he's made fun of for saying or doing something stupid, but at the same time he does have his cool side. I was kind of hoping that he would grow older and more hardened as the games went, less foolish, more wise, and becoming the confident and sadistic warlord he is in the original.
SW2 doesn't really do that much, beyond making him look older, it also does the awful decision of adding some annoying bitch to nag at him, to work as some sort of 'conscience', which I feel is strongly misguided. Maybe it's just me, but Lo Wang always struck me as a bit of an anti-hero, who doesn't necessarily do the right things because the thinks they're the just and moral thing to do, but more for personal gain and bloodlust (SW13 reflects this better).

I like SW13 a lot, though I do recognize that it has a number of problems, in gameplay but also story and narration (it's mostly decent, but there's some gaps and rough parts). I think it's a game which would be worth maybe remaking, if they got the same voice actors back for Lo Wang and Hoji, and largely kept the plot the same. Then they pretend that SW2 never happened.
I have very reserved expectations for SW3. Given that he seems younger, I wonder if they DMC2'd it and realized they wrote themselves into a shit corner, and just want to avoid the consequences of it, so it doesn't seem like they're going to progress him to the older and cooler Lo Wang any time soon.

If you say so. The gunplay was kind of average, and level design fairly linear and somewhat samey at times, but I really like the monsters and the sword was very fun to play with. I also really liked the music and even the story and characters, though there's a couple of holes and gaps in there.

It could be better, which is why I was disappointed with SW2 being mostly a lot worse in every way but graphics and weapon animations. I'll hope SW3 will learn from its faults, and not being a goddamn lootershooter like SW2 was, it does give me hope. It'd be interesting to see them evolve Lo Wang closer to his older original.
Something I think they need to bring back is the classic Build style level interaction, just let you flip light switches, flush toilets, blast cups and bottles off of tables and shelves, etc, stuff like that. It was fairly lacking in the reboot.

I think you're the first person I've ever seen who's said that. I like Blood a lot, and I pretty much loathe Blood 2 not just in its awful execution but also its awful concepts.

If all else fails, try the fists or toss some explosives underneath them. You'll have more control over explosives without autoaim. It is indeed a very fun game, Lo Wang controls real well and he's the funniest protagonist.

Affectionate parody is very much a real thing, and both Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior are examples of such. As goofy and sleazy as they get, and as much as they harp on the clichés, it's still about playing as a cool action hero who saves the world.
