Game Box Plus
>For Pokemon
GB300, X6, RG35XX, Miyoo Mini etc.
>For Game Boy Camera, Printer, link cable, Kirby Tilt 'n Tumble etc.
Modded GBP and GBC are cheaper, but to be fair the Analogue Pocket does still give you the additional option of other systems

I'm very biased towards budget handhelds, but I will say unless you specifically want to use original Game Boy hardware and accessories, it's better to just get a proper emulation handheld. If you want to splurge you can spend the extra money on a nice case and maybe one or two secondary handhelds.

Everyone should have at least one Famiclone.

Or ten

Controllers do exist for iOS, it's the actual software that's the annoying part to navigate around thanks to requiring a jailbreak and etc. etc. It's fine I guess but as you said there are better methods

And, as a Famiclone connoisseur, I prefer just using those for a quick game of Tetris or Donkey Kong. If people want Game Boy or SNES then they can just get a GB300 or SF2000 or something

Well OP, if you tell us what games you do like I'm willing to recommend some NES games. There's plenty of others like the Mega Man series, Kirby's Adventure, Adventure Island games, Double Dragon II, etc.

Honestly it's going to sound crazy but I found so many great NES games thanks to Famiclones

They are just Famiclones anon, you are probably thinking of RG35XX or Miyoo Mini

They didn't have it in the store anyway so I'll probably just order online

Adding to this

I'm very glad the purple handheld has an actual 3.0" screen and not just 2.4" or whatever, seems like a negligible difference but you really do notice it especially when playing in the dark. So far I've only played Dr. Mario and Adventure Island II on it but it rocks

>>10851024
Very nice GBC's anon. I would go this route if I wasn't so cheap

I never buy games anymore. If I want something fun and cheap for myself I'll just buy more of pic related for like twelve dollars a pop

For everything else I just emulate, either on another handheld or on my TV

Best way to enjoy it is pic related

Built in battery and backlight, full color, can be played on a CRT or on the go. Literally better than a Game Boy/Color

This is kind of a silly thread, maybe the most convoluted way of emulating games on the go lol. Even if you have a tablet you can just emulate most stuff locally through RetroArch, and at that rate you are generally better off with an actual handheld which is easier to carry

Last one I got was my PMP IV around Christmas time. Would be nice to collect more Famiclones and other retro handhelds but I've been overwhelmingly busy lately

I discovered Gun Nac through a ten dollar Five Below handheld (before they removed all of the good games). It's a fantastic shmup if you are looking for something fun and easy.

Also Mitsume Ga Tooru, Adventure Island series (every single time), Double Dragon II, Kick Master... Most of the time I just play Mario, Donkey Kong, or Tetris on mine though. I really wish they would put Mega Man 3 back on these, but then I guess that's why X6/GB300/etc. exist

Unironically Game Box Plus, I have five of them and they are the ones I play the most. Failing that, PMP IV, nice PSP styled handheld that's good for a quick round of Genesis or SNES.

If I just have a few seconds/minutes to kill, Tetris, Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, SMB3, etc.

If I have a little more time, usually Sonic 1 on my other handheld. If I have a good amount of time I'll turn on RetroArch on my TV and play Sonic CD or something.

There is some irony to this post. I bought new games for some of my friends and neither of them seemed as interested in them, but then I bought some retro handhelds for them and they both had a blast, even with the Famiclone handhelds. And one of them was born in '03

So, I have a bad habit of rotating the same two or three games or just straight up playing the same thing over and over again. It's not necessarily a bad thing but I tend to completely forget about all of the other games I've been meaning to play. Just last night I started flipping through my RetroArch playlist and it made me realize I STILL have not played Symphony of the Night, nor did I finish Castlevania Chronicles. I have games in RetroArch that I bought from the thrift shop years ago that I still have not even so much as tried.

I have this fascination with SEGA CD but I have not played my favorite SCD games in months, let alone other games on it like Popful Mail and Snatcher that I also have been meaning to play for probably a few years now. Because I keep playing the same things over and over again. And then I complain that every day is the same. I acknowledge that it's a bad habit and that I need to actually sit down and try some of these other games that I've been meaning to play.

Admittedly though a big part of the problem is time. I work close to full time while trying to run an Instagram page and design cool stuff, and sometimes I don't even get a chance to do all of that. This is compounded by a few other things in my life right now that have made things harder for me. Hopefully one day I will be able to try more of these great games, but as it stands I barely have time to play anything, sadly.

Kirby's Adventure
Donkey Kong
Gun Nac
Poke Tetris
Tengen Tetris
Jewelry
Double Dragon II
Mitsume Ga Tooru
Adventure Island II

If you like NES, highly recommend picking up pic related and just browsing through the games list. They usually have a handful of solid titles worth playing and occasionally a few fun surprises
