This is the only Schafer game that's worth a damn and unique. And it still has pretty bad puzzle design. One of the earliest instances of that
>somehow have to know that you have to clog some dumb machine
>somehow have to know that you have to get "worm" balloons for that
>somehow have to know that you have to fill the worm balloons with foam
>couldn't just use anything else to clog the machine, even though the only tip you get is that what wrecked the machine before was bottles (and there is even a bottle you can interact with)

This game is a fucking masterpiece. It is the Casablanca of the point and click genre.

>Grim Fandango is my favorite adventure game ever
>Mainly because it actually feels like an adventure
>People tell me I should love the inferior point and clicks like Sam & Max or Monkey Island just because I can use a mouse

Why? I like the occasional point and click (even the crappy new ones like the Blackwell series), but they're all just basically inferior to the king of the genre.

Not really spooky but given the Calaca characters its a pretty good game to play on Day of the Dead

Is Grim Fandango remastered preferred over the original?

It's just that I've been pondering on replaying GF lately. I never played it again since 1999 and pretty sure most puzzles in the game would require me to come up with actual thinking, not mere remembering (well, at least I hope so). The remastered version has bettered graphics, higher resolutions and, if I'm not mistaken, the conditional mouse controls. Yet remembering that whole ruckus around the remastered versions of HoMM3 and BG, seems like sometimes it's better to stick to old stuff.

So the new one or the original one?

>Make a game perfect for consoles
>Don't port it to the PS1 or Dreamcast

What were they THINKING?

I feel like if Grim Fandango came out today, they'd explicitly tell you Manny's backstory and why he's in a deadend job.

Reminder that there are very retarded point and click autists that don't like Grim Fandango just because of how it controls

These people make me ashamed to be a fan of the same genre

Reminder that there are very retarded point and click autists that don't like Grim Fandango just because of how it controls -- y'know, completely forgetting the brilliant writing, setting, graphics, style, music, etc

These people make me ashamed to be a fan of the same genre

They also randomly seem to hate Myst for some reason. Maybe Myst commercialized the genre in a way that hadn't been seen before, and I assume for an adventure game fan popular=bad

Oh, and they'll act like Telltale Games are bad, even though they solve their tiny little dick problem by removing all the hard puzzles that make their little brains hurt

Just started playing this game this week. Setting is great, characterisation isn't bad but I'm about halfway through my second year of the game and wondering...am I ever going to be satisfied from a gameplay stand point?

I love Lucasarts point and click games but these puzzles just feel uninspired and clunky...do they improve?

I've been going through a point and click phase lately, and I never played this one back in the day. I bought the remastered version when it came out and I really like it so far. It's very easy to get stuck and it gets frustrating, but that's typical of point and click games. I'm determined not to look up anything and ruin it with hints or walkthroughs.

So now that the Grim Fandango remake has been announced for PC (and Mac and Linux if that's your thing), the time is nigh for an adventure game thread.

I personally wish I could have gotten this game working on any of my computers, but it remains a constant thorn in my side to even get it to run, and it comes with gamebreaking graphical problems, so I guess I'm gonna pony up for the remaster when it drops.
