Yes, it's only 21 or so games, and outside of Waterworld, they're all ranging from decent to great.
For some of them you will have to shell out some big bucks though, like Jack Bros or Insmouse no yakata. But nothing ridiculous.

I don't think there's much text in the game. The premise is simple.

You're in a haunted mansion filled with deep ones. You have to run your ass out of there with a copy of the necronomicon in hand

Wario Land is the only GREAT game on the system.
Teleroboxer is the most unique game and pretty good, basically first person Punch-Out with robots.
The rest of the stuff is all good, only actual bad game in the whole tiny library is Waterworld.

Not him, but it's a really interesting system, and the 20 or so games it has are all from decent to actually good.
There's far, far worse (and less unique) consoles to shit on than the VB.
Yeah it was a commercial flop though, nobody gonna discuss that.

Sure, it's a fun dungeon crawler with first person perspective and shooting elements.
Not the best VB game but worth playing if you're into Lovecraft. No translation though.

You would probably have better luck directly asking on the VBplanet forum.

I suffer the same thing as a Virtual Boy fan (for those of you who claim AVGN always shit on Sega/other companies and not on Nintendo).

The VB was a commercial failure and a bizarre thing, alright, but it still has some great games and the thing, if bizarre, is quite unique.

But it's impossible to discuss it because there's always going to be people who never played it but will say it sucks because it gives you eye cancer or whatever.

>I'm assuming it's more powerful than the GBC

the virtual boy uses the same 32-bit RISC chip as the NEC PC-FX, it's fairly more powerful than the GBC and monochromatic color palette aside, it can do bigger sprites than the SNES, and also move them faster.

VB stuff has been increasing in price lately.

Some games are really expensive, like Jack Bros, Innsmouth no yakata (also hard as fuck to find), SD Gundam, etc.

Wario Land is also a bit expensive, I got it a few years back for about 30 bucks.

it's pseudo 3D, like Starfox (SNES) or Doom. Still pretty good, especially with the 3D effect.

VB was actually a pretty good little machine for 2D, ironically enough. It could do very big sprites with detailed animations. VB's native resolution was quite good for a system released in 1995.

Virtual Boy is pretty unique, and emulating it even with 3D glasses isn't the same. 3DS port of VB games would be nice, but also wouldn't be the same. The VB makes you feel like you're "inside" the game. I believe what inspired Yokoi to make the Virtual Boy were these really old "3D Photos" cabinets that were popular in the 1920s or so. I believe it uses the same optical effect, except on VB you're not merely looking at 2 pictures, but 2 screens with actual games. So the VB is like a videogames version of these old things.
Admittedly it's not very ergonomic and, rather than eye cancer or whatever urban myth there is about the VB, the pain you will feel will be actually in your neck. Or in your nose if you like to lay down and just sit the VB in your face (best way to play it).

The VB has a catalogue of 20 or so games, and pretty much all of them are good except for a few that I haven't personally played but heard are not good (Waterworld, Nester's funky bowling, this one is expensive as fuck though). Within the short catalogue are some cult/fan favorites like Virtual Boy Wario Land or Teleroboxer. Since the VB was developed by Nintendo R&D1 and Yokoi's team, it has quality games they are known for like the Wario Land series. There are no Metroid game, but Samus makes a cameo on Galactic Pinball (actually one of the best Pinball games I've played, must play for Pinball fans).

I also REALLY like the VB soundchip. It sounds like a richier, bass-heavy Gameboy.

Virtual Boy has some really good pixel porn if you don't mind the red and black.
