What are some simple /vr/ games with gentle difficulty curves and mechanics that are easy for a kid to wrap their head around?

My 5-year-old nephew is finally starting to show an interest in video games, so I picked up pic related to play with him. What are some other good options?

He's interested in the Mario games, but the difficulty goes up just a bit too fast. I want the kid to be able to progress, you know?

I currently only own an N64, a SNES, and a PSX, but all recommendations are welcome.

Bonus points for co-op.

Play something like Kirby The Crystal Shards (N64) or Kirby Superstar (Snes), the series in general is pretty easy and forgiving, but also fun, I can't imagine someone being unable to beat it if they try a little bit.

I remember playing this as a kid, replaying all the levels countless times experimenting with all the different copy ability combinations

Is this the best Kirby game of all time? All those delicious power-up combinations, secrets that make sense on how to get them, friends that actually did unique things to help out Kirby, and some sweet 2.5D polygon graphics.

It's gotta be up there with the likes of Super Star and Adventure.

What are your thoughts on Crystal Shards? I decided to go back and play it and wow is it charming. Some of the levels are so beautiful and stunning, like the autumn forest, or the river in the woods. I'm not crazy about the control though, it feels kinda stingy and makes the bosses not that fun.

Oh yeah, and I thought my game was broken for several minutes until I realized I needed to use the control pad.

I've been running Project64 for awhile and it's okay, but I'm having trouble with pic related. No matter which ROM of this game I run, the frame rate and music is sped up, and the bodies of the enemies are invisible (but their eyes and feet aren't).

I've deduced that the emulator is the problem. What's a good program to run Kirby 64?

What are your thoughts on Kirby 64? It's pretty easy, but man is it a charming game.

What your most nostalgic game /vr/?
For me it's SMW and Kirby 64. Pretty entry-level games, but Mario World was pretty much the first game I ever played (born in 1994) and up until I was a teenager or so and bought the GBA port the only time I ever saw the ending screen was when my dad beat it for me.
Kirby 64 on the other hand was the first game I ever beat, and even got to the final boss on.

ITT: games that are your personal favorite of a series that you doubt are anyone else's series favorite.
