And the way you upgrade weapons is stupid.

I think the issue was that most of the characters didn't contribute much to the story and didn't get much, if any, character development. In the end, the only characters I liked were Squall and Laguna. But I agree with you, I enjoyed the Laguna parts more. I would have liked a spin-off game about him like SE did with Crisis Core.
