I mean, as a kid I thought the Sherlock game looked awesome. FMV made for great looking commercials and magazine ads because in short doses all you saw was cool movie-like graphics and you never caught on to the limited gameplay.

The real issue was how expensive the thing was.

Last one I bought was loooong ago, an unofficial one for FFIII on the snes. It was the size of a phonebook and actually really well done. After that the internet kind of took over.

I kinda miss well-done, good-looking strategy guides because they were memorabilia as much as they were instruction manuals, but like others have said, once they started coming with flat-out wrong shit in them or were just cliffs notes versions that told you to go to some website they became truly pointless. Might as well just get an artbook instead if you wanted something in print.

It seems like they do spell it out for you, but then again you have correctly infer that "the wooden bridge" means "that small plank of wood in a different room"

Of course, this being SOTN it's just more stuff you can easily live without anyway
