The pickup sprite there kinda looks like one, but the actual first person sprites are made from a Beretta M9 shaped squirtgun they bought at Toys R' Us and then spray painted black.
Not strictly consistent, but then this is Doom.

Thinking about it, the pistol is supposed to have been a water pistol based on a Beretta M9, that they spray painted black, which makes the think that subgun from the Alpha might have been another water gun painted black.
