Professionalism wasn't a thing back then. Remember this is an era where print mags would casually drop slurs and fart jokes mid-review because they were a bunch of college aged stoners. Really it was just Nintendo and Sony themselves that were suit-and-tie adults in the room. And even Nintendo was seriously pushing it during their Play It Loud era.

This is the heyday of Bart Simpson and Ren & Stimpy. If you were rebelling against etiquette, ESPECIALLY in something typically controlled by moral guardians like cartoons and video games, that was seen as a badge of honor. "A VIDEO GAME made a blowjob joke! The medium meant for children! Surely you jest!"

This is one of my favorites because it's not even advertising the game itself but soliciting actual professionals. I'd love to see the resumes they got from this.

All my friends loved it and because of the marketing I really wanted to get into it but when I went to those friends house to play it I was really turned off by the turn based style of the game. I can remember clearly thinking as a 10 year old that I'll just wait for ocarina of time.

I still have a copy here and a few years ago I played through it for about 2 to 3 hours with my wife, who also loved it as a kid and I just couldn't get into it. I still plan to play it through one day as well.

I almost feel like I am the only person my age who preferred zelda over final fantasy....

The 90s were amazing. This is how Squaresoft tried to attract actual job applicants.

Not really on topic but since we're talking crazy as fuck print ads, this was how Squaresoft attempted to get actual fucking programmers. Like this isn't trying to sell a product. They're looking for professional resumes.
