Well I read a bit about it but I've got very little experience with electronics. I thought this would be a good project to start with. All the boards I looked at have some kind of controller chip, so I'd need to know what that is or what it does. Also many of them have extra components.

The pin layout says A/B share the same pin, and Start/C share the same pin. No idea how that works and couldn't find any good info on it.

Looked at some youtube videos of making joysticks and they're mostly just people making cases, which isn't the hard part to figure out obviously.
