True, for instance platformers is a rather dry subject for PC, started showing up in the early 90s when people like iD Software figured out how to make the hardware, and being able play console style games like that on PC was novel, but that market died down pretty soon, being outlived by their console counterpart.
It goes both ways too, strategy games has been a very narrow niche on consoles.

Yes, you would not have everything that was great if you were only on PC, just like you wouldn't if you were only on consoles.

>splitscreen
What the fuck would you use splitscreen for on PC? For multiplayer you have real netplay, something which was largely rare on consoles until the 2000s, and still it took a while to get common.

>some games developed for consoles got less than great ports to PC
Indeed they did, and just the same, there were many good PC games which got horrible, HORRIBLE ports to consoles. This very much went both ways, anon, which is another good argument for having more than just one platform.
Just as well, there are some games which for a long time wouldn't emulate properly, so the only good way to play them remained on console.

>Must've hurt playing cs 1.6 for years in a row
Not really, it's a fun game, as is Quake and Doom. Just the same I didn't feel bad going back to Super Mario 64 and [insert Castlevania here] over the years. Fun games remained fun, and new fun games kept coming around.
Hell, many good PC games had strong modding scenes, where some people would create some very fun new games out of existing ones, Doom's, Quake's, and Half-Life's modding scenes are legendary, they even remain alive still, classics like Counter-Strike and Team-Fortress spawned from there.
