As a fan of the game, I can think of a few negatives. The levels can be very large and feel like a commitment when you play. If you're new at the game, some parts of the levels can be really frustrating. See pic related, landing the bomb on this pedestal drove me insane and I fell off the ledge into the water trying to lean into the throw so many times. You can't save until you've fully completed a level, but levels are basically in two sections; you can't save after you beat the boss and get the new bomb type when it feels like you should, there's more to the level after that and if you're a noob you might get frustrated with some of the puzzles and then have to start all over from the beginning your next play through, especially if you've died enough times and lost all your power ups. It can be a bit challenging in parts, but the difficulty is not so bad, and it's satisfying to get to the end of the level. There's not many levels so if you play in one sitting it may seem a bit short, though it does pack a lot of story into it. There is replayability in finding hidden items which are usually opened metroidvania style with elemental bombs you get later on, these give Bomberman inherent power ups that he always keeps with him whether he dies or starts a level from nothing. There's also branching paths in the game and the Pommy side character has a surprisingly complex evolution tree. The story combines the cutesy bomberman aesthetic and the kirby-pikachu ripoff Pommy thing with a story that surprisingly takes itself very seriously. It can be a bit absurd and funny to play as an adult, but it was pretty engaging as a child.

If you're a bomberman fan I think it's hard to be disappointed by it. If you don't like/know Bomberman I think you might be impressed about the action-adventure aspects. It's worth a try if you've already played the Zeldas and Goemons to death, but it's also easy to write off if you don't like Bomberman or the cutesy story.

Making this throw is the single hardest moment in any N64 game
