I started working on a Vietnam Doom mod about a year ago. I got blocked on it because my map program kept crashing every two seconds. A few weeks ago I decided to say fuck it and draw up some quick maps in Eureka and import them into Slade. I spent a whole day making a convincing M60 by taking actual footage of someone shooting an M60 out of a helicopter and accentuating it with a kick drum. It's going to sound dope. Come to find out Sgt. Mark is making a very similar mod even down to the ability to fire weapons in semi auto mode to hit enemies from a long distance. Should I even continue working on my mod since his is going to be 100X better since I can't map for shit?

I'm not accusing anyone of copying me since we both took the idea from the NAM build engine game and I even used another mod as a jumping off point, but I'm just wondering what I can do to differentiate my mod from his, so it's not just a worse version of his.

I think I'm going to ditch the idea of trying to recreate NAM and focus on making something that's more tactical and realistic. I'm going to make booby traps, VC who snipe you from trees, and ditch the idea of having friendly AI or super scripted missions.
