It's not really how it was intended though. I don't think endless boss runs was intended, they added to extra areas for exp. Enemy respawn was new to D2 and might not have been originally intended, which makes extra areas make more sense. Too bad they didn't load more with tough baddies.

You can save scum Diablo I but it definitely wasn't what was intended.

Although I save scum The Hell 2 a lot, even for IDing items because it's cool as shit but way too fucking hard.

The Hell 2 mod is so fucking good and so unfairly hard.

Got the quest where you go to the other town but can't finish it, but then I can't get past the stairs on level 8 because a succubi boss with satyr minions is raping me.

I see a fellow patrician is playing The Hell 2. Not to excuse the extreme difficulty in multiplayer in early patches, having to rerun levels just for potions and to grind exp sucked, but it did make the game play more strategic. You really did need to use each class together. Rouge uses infravision to pull mobs slowly, warriors actually need to tank, and sorcerers have way more damage output but are glass canons. I had a good playthrough with two warriors and a rouge and sorcerer. Makes for actual team play. At first I didn't like friendly fire being turned off but it does make team coordination much better.

The Hell 2 has the best update to the UI and QOL improvements. You get a Diablo 2 style store, a stash, gloves, belt, boots, three fast weapon swaps. The biggest improvement is that you now run while not in combat. It also has a cool perk system.

You can actually dual wield, which is cool. A lot more summons too.

The problem is that it's also too grindy. Playing a warrior you have to switch to swords for animals and maced for undead. Sorcerers are even worse. Every monster has some immunities so you have to constantly hotkey new spells.

I only really enjoyed playing barbarians or rouges since you don't have to swap weapons at all times.

The grind is actually not that bad on single player. I made it all the way through only dieing a few times. Multiplayer is fucking brutal though. It definitely needs fixes for difficulty.
