Since the problem is the server (not the renderer) and Quake more or less can handle servers running at 10 Hz, and the FTE protocol supports this map (unlike Ironbolt which can't really network), you can run the server on a separate process:
vkQuake(-area10) -quoth -game bolts -dedicated 1 +sys_ticrate 0.09 +skill 2 +map bolts
and then
vkQuake -quoth -game bolts +connect localhost
In vkQuake AREA_DEPTH is 4 so it chokes on Intel like a bitch, so I made a build with it set to 10 (technically only the server needs this): https://files.catbox.moe/xjixr0.7z
This allows you to play at hundreds of FPS (mostly) judder-free as long as the server manages to hit 10 Hz. I think some effects and sounds do go missing though.
