Btw, I probably should go for Galaxy Force II or Power Drift for an impressive 1988 game, but Ghouls'n Ghosts had absolutely amazing 2D art for a 1988 game. The only game that MAY come close to it could be Altered Beasts. I literally couldn't believe those graphics back then. It looked like paintings.

In fact, people from Konami said in recent interviews that they were very impressed with the game when It was released, and Yuji Naka liked so much that programmed the game for the Mega Drive without persmission in 5 months. He also got the idea for the hills and slopes for Sonic The Hedgehog from Ghouls 'n Ghosts too. It was the first time when a plattform game didn't had only squared and flat platfforms in levels.
