Halo ruined the genre for a long time by introducing 2 weapon limit, restricted mobility, regenerating health, slow combat, and casualized multiplayer.
This is coming from a literal 1997 halo kiddie.
Half life is pretty shit too. It took the most important aspects of a shooter game (the shooting), and made it suck.
