Even when you do read wikis they're some of the deepest and most interesting games there are.

But to be fair if I had wikis back then I would have used them. I didn't even have an instruction manual though. It was just one of dozens of games we got from some family friend with our first computer. Mpst bored me fairly quickly but Rogue was like this impossible puzzle and even though it would piss me off I kept going back.

I look at it and see it how I remember seeing it then, not arcade perfect but still great for an at home experience and the controls were solid. That's really all I cared about then.

I had long been used to home versions paling in comparison to arcades though so maybe expectations play a role.

That looks a heck of a lot closer to the arcade than the DOS version I used to play the hell out of an was still fun. Spy Hunter was pretty great back then, not so sure how any version holds up now though.

I played so much fucking Spy Hunter as a kid. Damn I loved that game.
