Final Fantasy 7 is like the umpteenth attempt at a high fantasy JRPG with visuals that aged like milk and gameplay that ultimately is just a bore.

EarthBound 64 would have shook up the industry by eschewing the generic fantasy tropes Square had been peddling nonstop by having a totally original story with true pathos and wildly imaginative settings and scenario. For those of you who played Mother 3, I think you know what I mean. Imagine seeing the death of Klaus in 3D: Totally would mog the shitty and overrated "Aeris' death" scene that people keep bringing up to this day, some dumb healer whore that wasn't actually that interesting or well written. Klaus on the other hand is more personal since it's Lucas' goddamn brother and you see his transformation to soulless soldier in realtime just like Darth Vader.

It also has to be said that the mechanics they were planning on N64DD in terms of storytelling and moment-to-moment gameplay in battles would have been ambitious and also eat FF7's lunch.
