>But up until this point there was an illusion of choice. Paul has no alternate path, no way to mitigate or even protest. He is immortal because the devs didn't want, didn't know or ran out of time to deal with your not wanting to screw yourself over on the word of a bleeding heart and his terrorist buddies.
Let's say you wanted to play a bootlicker JC that's a ruthless international cop that kills filthy terrorists because Big Sam told him to. You can perfectly do that up to the point you're forced to betray UNATCO, and there's even secret dialogue that points towards the cut route if you've actually been playing JC like that. There's some sidequests and subplots that you can influence the outcome on depending on how you want. Now, tell me, is that really JUST an "illusion" of choice? I think you were disappointed the game didn't let you live out your globalist cop fantasy, and you let that blind you from the rest of the game (which, in my opinion, is just as good as up to where you played).

>You have to willingly abandon unatco like paul and kill a dozen guys just doing their job
Would you say mass murderers are just "doing their job"? Because that's what UNATCO soldiers are. Instead of using gas grenades for non-lethal crowd control, they just want bullets to kill NSF militia (which mind you, are just citizens revolting against an authoritarian government squeezing their freedoms).
>it's a major change of pace
It's not. But you still get so much freedom, it's refreshing.

Human Revolution was made by Squeenix weebs and it shows: incoherent characters, unrealistic dialogue and mannerisms, stupid body language, plot and lore are outright science fantasy instead of grounded in realism like the OG DX, which is ironic, since it loved its conspiracy theories and sci-fi. The gameplay is as dumbed down, if not more so, as Invisible War, which was a bad sequel, and that's an understatement.

After the initial release run, games and other media effectively become our collective cultural legacy, and attempts to stifle their viewing/playing only promotes the corporate agenda that wants to erase our history and allow the experience of only those works they consider worthwhile. Imagine if modern copyright law existed in the Middle Ages, popular legends like King Arthur would never become the derivative treasure of stories that they currently are. The entire history of Arthurian legend consists of an author copying down the story from a previous generation, changing it a bit and then telling it anew as his own creation. People don't even know when these things were invented since there was so much derivative storytelling going on all the time, and that's great.
Derivative works are essential to common culture, and this goes back to the earliest fucking writings of humanity. Just look at how many fanfics are written for popular series, stuff like Harry Potter has probably several million stories scattered around the Web. And then you get some corporate fuck telling you that you can't make a derivative game based on an old one since its their intellectual property. Give me a break. Do you want to live in a world where we only get to see endless Sherlock Holmes remakes, since that's one of the later public domain properties, or will we get to see a major movie re-imaginining of Mickey Mouse one day?

The Elite are all about transcendence and living forever and the secrets of the universe and they want to know all this; some are good, some are bad, some are mixed. But, the good ones don’t ever want to organise, the bad instead are the ones that organise, because they lust after power. Powerful consciousnesses don’t want to dominate other people, they want to empower them, so they don’t tend to get together until things are really late in the game, then they come together. Evil is always defeated, because good is so much stronger. And, we’re on this planet and Einstein’s physics showed it, Maxwell’s physics showed it, all of it, that there is at least twelve dimensions, and now that’s why all the top scientist and billionaires are coming out saying it’s a false hologram, it is artificial. The computers are scanning it and finding tensions points where it is artificially projected and gravity is bleeding in to this universe, that’s what they call dark matter. So, we’re like a thought or a dream that’s like a wisp in some computer program, some god’s mind, whatever. They’re proving it all, it’s all coming out.
