As a kid I had to stay long times at the hospital, and that's where I saw a Playstation for the first time. It was 1995 or 1996, so it actually was somewhat new in Europe.

The only thing to play on it was a disc with several small games. Most of them were 2D and really bizarre, but it also had a mode where you walked around an empty 3D gallery-like place. For some reason I got a very eerie vibe from all of it, and went back to playing Sega Master System like usual.

Anyone know anything about a disc like that? This has been bugging me for a few decades now

>First PS1 game you ever played?
>Absolute favorite game?
>That obscure game you love but doesn't get enough love on the internet?
>Currently playing?

Just finished Crash 1-3 and CTR, they were a bit on the easy side. CTR was the first thing I played on the PS1, 3D grafx blew my mind into smithereens.

The PlayStation 1's graphics hardware was entirely fixed-pipeline architecture, featuring none of the hardware-level reprogrammability seen in modern graphics hardware.

So how the hell did Konami pull off those shader-like effects in Metal Gear Solid 1?

Namely the cloak effect, the motion blur effect, and the wobbly effect that covers the screen when you're underwater.

It couldn't possibly have been the software itself manually drawing certain things pixel-by-pixel, because that would have been seriously bottlenecked by the CPU.

Would the video game industry have been different if the PS1 was never made? Or what if the PS1 was indeed made, but it turned out to have been a failure on the same level as the 3DO?

I'm currently looking for a PS1 on eBay, and want to know which one is generally considered the best model.

PAL region (Europe).

Big grays only, no slim models.

I just recently received a PS1, though I have my suspicions that it is broken. How can I tell if my console works? When I put in a PS1 game, I can hear it spinning, but it stays at the black screen with the PS1 logo while the disk tray does a quiet "tick tick tick" sound. When I put a music CD in, it shows the total track number and the total time, but the controller they gave me doesn't seen to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

I found my old stack of PS1 games today, but my actual is console is broken and I was wondering, what is the best PS1 emulator to use? What are also some tips and recommendations I can do with the emulator? (plugins, enhancers, etc.)
