Its neat how so many games from this era used the same assets packages sgi graphics software and music sample libraries. The promotional ads and prerenders were amazing and I dont think the jump in graphics will ever be matched.

On a side-note, having since played all the SNES/SFC installments, I thought for a while that the characters look short & stocky due to the top-down perspective, and that they're supposed to really look like Amano artwork or their counterparts in portraits. And I thought it was a strange revisionism when Square released 3D remakes with polygonal munchkin characters, like that some idiot designer had taken characters' forced perspective appearance as their actual appearance. Then I realized that fucking FFV original Japanese SFC box-art has Bartz as a munchkin. So much for my assumption.

Yes, the character models can fucking ruin it for me. I know that's very closed-minded, seeing as it has no impact on actual gameplay, but there you have it. FFVIII ruined it for me.

Holy shit why is the OST for FF7 so fucking good? say what you want about the other aspects of the game, but god be damned, I believe Umatesu sold his soul to create all these themes.

Just check out the WORLD MAP theme. You never get anything like it anywhere. It's so haunting and majestic at the same time. Switching tones and mood in the middle, yet retaining the themes of FF7.

Why can I play it 100 times over and have fun every time, yet I can't bring myself to even play FF13
