I've decided to not bother with rebalance patches and deal with any issues the vanilla titles may have. If I do end up in a situation where I have crap units then I guess I'll just, you know, use actual tactics like you're supposed to. If I really like the games then I'll give the rebalanced versions a try after I beat them. Also, thanks for the tips.

Ristar holds up incredibly well. God-tier pixel art and paralax, perfect difficulty curve, water and ice levels that are actually FUN, beautiful OST, and great varied level design. The only issue I have with it is the scratchy voices.
