Playing this for the first time. It looks like there are ton of missable obscure items and shit. Should I bother reading a guide or just playing and exploring blindly?

I won't be playing it again after I finish it.

It was just such a huge downgrade from FF7. It was not a bad game, per se, people just expected something better.

Can someone help me get FFVII run with mods, pretty please? I have the game on Steam and had to convert it to 1998 version, but it just gives me all these errors when I try to load it with 7th Heaven. I searched google and the directions are so fragmented, some download links don't even work anymore...I think I might be late to FFVII modding? I want to make the backgrounds smooth for one thing, and for some reason I *have* to convert it to the 98 version for that.
I tried asking on /wsr/ & /v/ but got nothin :c
