I don't agree. Romero was really getting starting on the style he'd later use in Doom, creating much more exciting gameplay than Tom's mazes. It's just odd to me how the community seemingly completely ignored this development and kept making maximum size Spear of Destiny slogs and E2/E6 trial and error sadism. It's like if Final Doom came out exactly as it is but for some reason TNT was the one everyone took inspiration from while Plutonia got shafted.
