this was a joke. the game would drip feed you tiny enjoyable segments, and then boom, before you know it you're back to playing as a faggot dog where you can't do anything cool other than kill beetles and zombies with all of 2 attacks for an hour at a time. oh, and you could also sniff peoples' anal fumes to find them. great.

worst items in the series. you had stuff like the spinner and dominion rod which were used in a single dungeon and then in maybe 2 places in the overworld with no other utility. then there's the horse call, which you only get at the end of the fucking game when you can just instantly warp anywhere anyway. then there's the potions which are all identical outside of small differences in healing power. rupees were basically useless and you never needed to use them for anything except money sinks and maybe buying special bombs... everything was so fucking underutilized.

the combat was actually pretty good. the problem is, the game is easy as fuck. there is not one enemy that ever poses a threat, ever. all of the special skills and techniques are wasted on this baby brain bullshit.

you'd think "hey, at least the fishing is great", but it isn't. sure, they added more types of fish and let you fish anywhere in the world -- even in dungeons, i'll admit that's cool -- but the problem is, the fishing itself is trash. you literally cast your line and wait until a hit and then just flick the wiimote/c-stick. compare to OoT which is honestly the best fishing game on the N64 and had better fish AI, baiting and luring techniques, and actually forced you to reel and tug.

i've spent 17 years trying to like this game. it seduces me back every few years with its amazing atmosphere and music, and then i immediately remember why it's fucking shit.
