Really. Aren't the maps just clusterfucks of random enemies that kill themselves without player intervention? Don't they have obvious copypastes of rooms from the iwad? Isn't the art just beginner's first sprite work plus stuff ripped from other mods?

It is a joke wad that's been updated to DBP status for reasons unknown. Maybe it's just their idea of fun. Or a sign of mental issues.

This is pretty great mate
You beat 100% of the game, there's nothing else to do, now everything is different so you have a reason to play again and it's proof of your skills. Back in 1991 there was nothing like it, games were linear series of challenges that you could only reset and try again for more points as endgame.
Also I was the first of my friends to get it and show off, they called me a liar when I told them about it in school then they had to eat shit when it was true.

I think the game is bad AND I disagree with the article.

Before adding new features and cores now, they should be focusing on ease of use for newbies. There's a ton of work you have to do in order to get it working the way you want it to. I know how to use RA because I've been through nearly every scenario in which it can fuck up on you and I've had to look up forums for solutions. Like, they finally got rid of the "null" gui. Like, why would you ever add that in the first place? Yeah it's an easy fix for anyone who goes inside the config file, but holy shit.

Also, you can update assets and cores within Retroarch but you can't actually update RA itself. Retarded.

Semi-related, does anyone know how to get Philips CD-i games to run in RA? I've been trying forever and all the tutorials out there are massively out of date.

>Does watching playthroughs count as beating the game?
fuck no

Anyway, I'll usually just watch playthroughs on youtube if a game looks interesting or if I just want the story. You don't have to listen to inane commentary or watch the streamer fuck up over and over.

The purist in me prefers real hardware but I love the convince factor emulation offers and many of the bells & whistles you can't get with real hardware alone. I was hoping MiSTer would be the perfect solution to my problem and while it's come a long way, it's not quite there yet.
I'm tempted to get one only for the Jotego cores because i'm a huge arcadefag and he actually bothers to decap everything for his cores

Splash Wave is one of the few YT shows I really like, probably because of the excellent presentation. Instead of some ugly dude mugging the camera and following up with bad skit comedy, it's just a pleasant background voice with well researched info and really nice animated graphic design work.
I also really like Gaming Historian. I know some people here will hurl the Wikipedia meme but I feel he goes beyond that, the effort he puts into his overall presentation really sell it for me. His videos made within the last 4-5 years are leaps and bounds better than what came before it, he's come a long way.

I really wish the hacking/translation scene for PC Engine and PC-FX was not so dead. I'm using machine translation to play some RPGs but it's clunky and sometimes doesn't pick up all the text.

I bought an original PS2 at goodwill for $20. I use it with a FreeMCBoot card and SATA hard drive adapter to play ISOs.

Man, I would fucking kill for a revival of the Shield Portable with a Vita/PSP form factor. It would be the perfect handheld for emulation, none of these fly-by-night Chinese handhelds would ever stand a chance.

Once we get our house this year I'll absolutely be making space for a hifi sound setup. I've always been so jealous of my friends who took the time to set one up for themselves.
