The pattern I used seems to yield best results without completely sacrificing diagonals on rg35xx. Give it a shot, it made a significant difference to me, especially when playing platformers.

Finished the first goemon for the snes using the rg35xx. It worked great and the game is cool, but the town sections are terrible. The hitboxes are all over the place, you can't jump over some projectiles and the enemy respawn in those areas is ass.
Started the second game and it's a massive improvement since the townsfolk will only come after you if you attack them. Good way to make it an option for the people who liked that aspect of the first game.
