Gamepro was the shit. Parents wouldn't let me have a subscription, but I bought the new issue every month at my videotron. Would also pick up PC Gamer and Nintendo Power occasionally.

Used to get issues of Total 64 too, which I think were from the UK, but I would only see that on store shelves once or twice until never seeing it again. I remember they showed a blurry pic of Mega Man 64 before it was announced, my friends thought I was lying.

I live in Ottawa, ON. We have a few establishments geared towards retro gaming. A lot of independent stores pop up and disappear, but the stores that stick around usually make their money selling other things or holding tournaments.

A bar near parliament seems to still be very successful. They get a good amount of people and they hold tournaments every month for different games. They have booths with consoles set up and when you order a drink you can ask for some controllers and a game they have available. Really comfy environment. Last time I was there me and some friends played Gauntlet on the N64. Another bar down the road attracts a younger crowd. It's right near one of our universities, they hold live shows every weekend, and have wall-to-wall arcade and pinball machines. Really cool environment, but I felt out of place since I was probably a decade older than most of the people there.

Do some sprite swaps, add a few animations, and add a few new sound effects and it's basically just Doomguy punching a Cyberdemon to death. It'd have to be much more of an "inspired by" mod than a total recreation, I'd think.
