>pay $300 + monthly tip to both Nintendo and St. GIGA
>can play trimmed down versions of games you already own, or trimmed down versions of games you already own with people talking over the game
>only if they decide to let you through
>is completely, absolutely worthless hardware unless you lived in Japan from 1995 to 2000
Really cool!

What was the origin of this being referred to as a Bandai peripheral? I remember this coming up regularly in the 2000s, but was never aware of why people seemed to erroneously associate the "B" with "Bandai"

By your logic, the SNES Satellaview was the first before the DC then.

I think Satellaview probably met Nintendo's expectations for sales. Nobody in their right mind would expect it to be a runaway success selling in the millions. But it did alright in Japan.

Not quite on the same level as game streaming, but definitely one of the earliest examples of owning nothing and being happy

Not sure why people here think the SNES CD would have been just like the Sega CD. Satellaview was an even more niche add-on for the SNES, which came out years later than the SNES CD was supposed to, and it lasted well into the N64's lifetime.

With a full-power Secret of Mana, Nintendo franchises, and certainly more third-party support, I am certain it would have been a success. Not only that, but it would have bolstered Nintendo's confidence in the CD format, mitigating the apocalyptic disaster that was the N64.

Why did Nintendo do a huge project like pic related so close to the release of the Nintendo 64? That must have cut into the viability quite a bit. Also, the Super Game Boy 2 was released like 1 and a half year after the N64, while the N64 didn't receive any equivalent of it unless you count the Wide-boy 64.

One was cable-operated, the other used satellite technology to function and required a modem-like peripheral. which do you like more overall?

Oh, and anyone else here wonder how it would have turned out if Nintendo tried bringing Satellaview to the Americas via deals with either Dish Network(yes, they were around back then), TWC, Verison, or AT&T? I mean, XBand already had support for the SNES as well as the Genesis/Mega Drive.

So whats the deal with this? I like the idea of people recovering these "lost games", like gaming archeology. Whats the latest find with Satellaview?

And just a BS/Satellaview thread I suppose.
