>What about with the alt64 custom firmware!
I did not fuck with the firmware, because I brought my problem here, and many people advised me that they had an ED64, and the problems I had were not problems they had. I am realistic that my situation was out of place, and rare, but on the flip side of the coin I wasn't in the least bit surprised by that.

>ED64Plus works great as long as you get the newer version that has the lockout chip built in.
I had the newest version. It did not work with quite a few games including perfect dark. You can shill for the cheap chink shit, but that is ok. You didn't spend hours downloading every known copy of a rom in existance to have things like Conkers BFD not have background sounds. PD wouldn't even start. Majoras Mask would not load. I used a N64 test rom, and it had the "Ultra CIC Chip" per the test rom made by saturnru.

pic related is in the photo. It has since been replaced by a fully working Everdrive 2.5

>But there are enough people out there saying some don't work
I still have a rom file with a list of problem titles. It certainly should have worked, but it didn't work. I resold it and the buyer asked me if I had any problem with it, so I know it didn't work for him either. List includes Aidyn Chronicles, Banjo2, DK64, LoZ MM, Paper Mario, Perfect Dark, R2rumble boxking, Spiderman, Sw Episode 1, Turok 2 & 3, WCW backstage, WWF Attitude, WWF no mercy.

I tested EVERY NTSC Us released game to get that list. I tried multiple files from quite a few locations.

>do you have any recommendations for chinese clones?
Ed64 plus is garbage. I had one, and it did not work with some games....There was no correlation. Some games that used the expansion pak worked, some did not. I got an Ever Drive 2.5, and never had an issue....I am using the same rom files. Others say that it worked for them however. I don't doubt that there is a lack of quality from a knockoff, but I was really let down.

Here is a photo of my battlestation & you can see that pos cart.

I have a samsung Tx r2035 20", however it is a flat screen. It has component, composite and svideo. It is a very good screen, and I Have no complaints. I Have not seen many sets that have component that are in the "medium" size range. Most units are over 25" that I have seen. The only reason I have this samsung is because of the size and hookups.

>20" the border or just definitely big?
My opinion:

20" is a good size, but is suited for a small room with group play. A 14" is more for personal enjoyment.

However. The 20" is a nice "in-between-size" in that it almost is big, but is almost small.

As you shop around, you will find MANY 14"+ with at least svideo. Every single TV I have found used with COMPONENT was made in 2004.

I have a 20" samsung with component/composite/svideo and a 25" console tv with Svideo. I don't know that component is necessary, but it works great for ONE set of systems. The Wii & the Gamecube.....However, the caveat with that is that gamecube component cables used cost $300ish. Component cables for Wii are dirt cheap. Wii will output 240p via composite or svideo....svideo and component just provide better IQ.

Difference for the wii from svideo to component? I don't think it is worth nit-picking about...but there is a difference. It is minor to the point that I don't see any difference until I look at side by side screenshots.
pic related is 27"

Also, Look around. Shop at second hand stores. TVs can be had for $20, so I buy the best one I can when I find one worth getting, and as time goes on I find better ones. I just returned a TV to a goodwill for resale that I bought 3 years ago. They help the community, and I don't mind that they may sell that tv 3-4 times.

>Anyone in the greater Seattle Washington area want a 27" Trinitron with S-video and composite inputs?
This is fucking awesome and you are a true based anon! If I was in PNW, I would certainly hunt you down for that TV. My friend used a similar 27" trinitron when he rebuilt an arcade cab. This is a great offer, and I hope you find a great anon to share it with!

>I never knew about any video quality differences between the RVL-001 and RVL-101
I don't think it was by the model, but internal changes to the motherboard during production. There is a way to verify which motherboard you have viewing through the battery compartment. The motherboard revisions did not offer more then cleanup to image quality. there are a few pictures floating around, but I should have saved that thread....I just figured that because my Wii is "finished" that there was nothing more to know as I don't plan on modding any more.

>Do you have any tips regarding buttons feeling “mushy”?
Find a direct fit replacement rubber pad. Some work better then others. I usually just franken-controller things together. As example, the other month I realized that my son destroyed all of my xbox controllers over the course of 3 years. 3 out of 4 were broken either by dropping on the hardwood floors or having wires ripped internally from wrapping the controller up.

I bought 6 used ones and one generic. Sometimes the generic 3rd party items work in OEM, sometimes not. After it was all done I had 3 working OEM one generic and a pile of parts. The bad stuff got tossed, and the confirmed goods were kept.

Some "retro" stores sell non-working models in bulk. This is a great way to cheaply source better pads.

Cleaning with Isopropyl rubbing alcohol can clean these things up. Get a small brush to really clean out where the plastics touch. Make sure all your screws are not stripped which can cause "spongy" feel. I keep a 2 part plastic glue handy and IF I strip the screws (or they were stripped) you can toothpick some glue into the hole, and re-screw. Sometimes I just glue and reassemble if it works, other times I wait until the next day. If it it still fails, I toss it.

One of my favorite controllers was a generic Wii Snes controller that fit a broken SNES controller shell. It has since failed...due to my sister-in-law's kids not understanding that soda and vidya don't mix....so to fix that issue, they now have no access to my game collections.

I try to clean out/cleanup every few years to keep things fresh. One thing I do that everyone swears against is using a brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner.

>if you mash the button really hard it will come back on.
This is exactly my issue. When the new one comes, I may take apart the older one. This will give me an idea IF I want to keep using it, or trade it in.

>>4699503
>well, longer cord will add latency
Just stop. You are debating semantics and moving goal posts. You may be correct in theory, But what you claim is so abysmally minute it is a non issue. You are just trying to defend your opinion on an anonymous message board. Save the pilpul for your friends at church. I am neither your friend, nor am impressed. IF I was running through a few thousand feet of A/V cable, it may even be noticeable, but I doubt it. Most likely the signal would need amplified long before the latency introduced would be noticeable.

>>4699646
>But you're hung up on s-video

I am happy with current IQ with svideo. I don't need rgb-meme to impress imaginary people on a Mongolian basket weaving forum. I already explained it. Sorry you cannot comprehend that I find S-Video more then acceptable for my $20 Samsung Tx-r2035 20" Tv.

>>4699667
>What exactly is the issue with the right speaker?
The connectors inside are dirty. I can tell from the way I need to wiggle the button to get a good connection. This is all it is. It is not serious.

GREAT ADVICE! Thank you.

>CRTs are fixed, dead-end tech. You can't really make them smaller without significant compromises.
They may be dead end, but they are exceptional in the areas of viewing. I know that this is not /vr/ but, imagine 4k true 120hz crts. The industry may be quite different.

LCDs are like dogshit. The only person brave enough to look at it is the owner.

The limit is size, and that is the ONLY advantage that LCDs have over CRT.

I have a really good "last" example of 480i CRT with Composite, component and Svideo. It looks great. I wish that this technology continued

>believe, i'm a supporter of crt and scanlines etc, i own a pvm and a trinitron for my classic systems but what do you think is a better emulation box for nintendo systems? wii u is all inclusive for every nintendo system, portables and home consoles.

I have the Wii & N64. With the system configured, I have access to every game I ever wanted made for a Nintendo system with very little effort....Except some of the wii games. I hate the waggle horseshit. But for Gamecube, it is exceptional to be able to boot from SD or USB disc drive. What has been done for wii homebrew is nothing short of amazing. My kids loved it, then I got a wii u, and they loved that. It gathers dust now too. I lost every high powered PC in the house to these new steam gamers lol.

I wish I had done this shit when they were using the wii years ago. It would have saved lots of headache and broken discs.

I will give credit. The systems are built like tanks. After it was all assessed, the only broken component was a shot nun-chuck. Years of heavy abuse by kids with no care in the world, and I was impressed. I put it in the survivors shrine.

perhaps over $1k. I am a minimalist. When digital backups became norm, I dumped physical copies of all games. Currently processing through Gamecube and Wii games, getting ready to sell them too. The CD-R for the PSX is cheap enough to justify some media. For what I enjoyed, this is the best of what I need.

I have a few small bins with peripherals not pictured. Working hardware is where it is at. I have Numerous controllers and backup systems. Started looking for another wii for an snes/nes emulator for my younger brother, who is 34

>Update: Now with my old XBOX and N64!
That is very crisp, and orderly. I do enjoy your choices, and think we could share long conversations about how our taste is much better then everyone elses.

I got all my controllers unboxed from our recent move and checked them. Somehow my son destroyed 3 out of 4 Xbox controllers. I have a green one that is barely used, and in the mail I have a few OEM ones+ a duke this week. I don't have nearly the software collection, as I have migrated to space savings of SD cards and hard drives.
