You've got them the other way around.

Zero is slow, laggy and heavy in X5, while he's an unstoppable fucking beast in X6 even without any parts or weapons. Zero's buster in X5 is literally useless but in X6 it's a valuable asset.

IIRC, you only need to destroy the leftmost one and the bottom right one. You can use the Items to slip by the others. If you screw up, you're going to have to die and grind.
