Earlier PS1 models have a laser issue and people found out you can make it still read discs if you play them upside-down. Doesn't always work, but sometimes.

It's often mentioned, but Sony fans will try to make it appear as if it's just a minor problem because later models worked better, or because their individual experience with it was fine.
But yeah, fuck Sony.

Yep, that's a real Sony PlayStation machine you've got there.
Try playing it upside down. If not, just emulate, or play on PSP/PS2.

Sony fanboys are really angry that the only console they can talk about on /vr/ is the PS.

>Rrod payed off tho.
Same with PS1, lots of people bought multiple units because the disc drive stopped working (some didn't even knew you could make it work like pic related)

Spotted the actual post-millennial whos first console was the PS2.
the way to play ps1 was top-down because the laser would fuck up.

>N64 that I bought in 1996
still works like the first day
>Saturn that I bought in 1997
still works like the first day
>PS1 that I bought in 1996, before the other 2 systems
Stopped working a long time ago, not even the upside down trick works anymore

Are PS1 really that finicky, or I was just unlucky?

>6:I'm getting into conspiracy territory here but everyone I know had to replace his PSX at least once because it broke easily due to more moving parts, so more consoles sold to replace the broken ones

Not a conspiracy, the PS1 had a high failure rate, having to use the console upside down in order to play discs is common knowledge among PS1 users.

I just jumped to the Dreamcast when my PS1 broke, but I know a lot of people who went through at least 2 or 3 (or more) consoles because they kept breaking.

By making you place the PS1 upside-down in order to read discs?

>Loading times weren't that bad

Yes they were.

>and even with the jittering that texture still looked way better than the one on the left.

It looked like a pixelated mess even on CRTs. The AA filter looked decent on a CRT at the proper resolution.

I love the PS1, but you can't defend its graphics outside of things like SOTN.
