Klonoa 1 still hits me hard, both that scene and the ending but nothing compared to my last replay of Klonoa 2.
>Played Klonoa 2 first when I was a young kid
>Remembered nothing about the plot but it was a fun time
>Years later played 1
>Absolutely shocked by that scene and the ending
>When the remakes come out I replay them both
>Grandpa and ending scenes still get me
>Play 2 for the first time in nearly 20 years
>Notice the sound from the start of the ending in the intro, cool little detail
>Continue to the end
>Get to Hyuponia
>Mfw I heard the Klonoa 1 music remixed into the level
>Mfw I realised It's Breezegale
>Mfw I realised why it's called Hyuponia
Honestly, it's pretty great how the game makes perfect sense regardless if you played DtP or not, but realising where the Kingdom of Sorrow really was made Klonoa ringing the bell a hell of a lot more impactful. Having the ending basically being a role reversal from 1 where Klonoa accepts he needs to go instead of begging to stay just made me really sad. A platformer staring a cute mascot that shouts wahoo every 5 seconds should not make me feel the way it does.
