Same... not only is it a much better video game than the 8-Bit version, but the 8-Bit version has the Symbiote locked behind "Nightmare" mode, which is the only reason I ever tried to beat it on this difficulty, also even getting the thing is quite tricky. It sucks that the worst version got such a cool thing, and the better ones didn't, I don't go as far as thinking the 8-Bit one is bad, but all of that "ONE GUY? NO CONTINUES?" really ruins the fun of it for me, it's too punishing to me.

10.000 points to unlock the Quick-Change suit to 100% the save file... 23 frame perfect jumps in a row under a strict time limit... a single jump too late and you lose, jump too early and you waste time and don't make it anyways... it was changed in the Dreamcast and PC ports because they got that it was BS no kid could pull off... it took me 20 years to actually do it! DAMN YOU NEVERSOFT.

I find the OG to be a better video game overall... but a part of me genuinely prefers Enter Electro nowadays. I LOVE the darker and moody OST and aesthetic it goes for, the atmosphere of the OG was a lot like the early comic books and the 90's animated series, which is perfect for Spider-Man, but I love the gritty atmosphere the sequel goes for, and having the webbing on the suit is great.

I think my favorite improvements were the new lock-on system, which is crucial on some bosses, and the focus on stealth, which makes me tackle levels in a different way from how I did in the OG.

It's really satisfying to sneak around and avoid a lot of unnecessary combat, it's what I'd do if for whatever reason I really was Spider-Man, and this is especially helpful on the hardest difficulties.

It's a shame that the OG used most of the more iconic villains, but still I feel that, while Electro's well done here, and I love the over the top voice acting, something like Kingpin would've been a lot better for a main villain, similar to SEGA's title from the 90's. I believe Green Goblin/Hobgoblin weren't done because they fly, maybe it was a bit tough to pull that off on PS1, still a shame really.

>/vr/ games with insanely brutal difficulty
Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin (SMS/SGG)
I adore the Mega Drive and Mega CD versions of this title, but this version? I mean... ONE GUY? NO CONTINUES? I mean, AVGN references aside, this is my main complaint, you have a 24min timer, no way of recovering any time at all, and if you lose any health and need to recover, it's done by just resting in your apartment... which makes time go by faster... oh, did I mention that if your health's depleted completely at any point, you go back to the beggining? Oh, I did, but I can't stress enough as it's what turns a title with decent level design, at times, and playability, for the hardware and its time, this makes it punishing in a way that only in the easiest setting there's any actual enjoyment in a carefree manner, and even that's rough... but the harder settings? I never beat it on Nightmare, which is quite an appropriate name... oh, and the Symbiote suit, iconic to the franchise, and whose video game debut was here... is locked under the Nightmare difficulty! I mean, this is sadistic...

Well, technicalities aside, as someone that grew up with a PS1, owning Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, who wanted a 3rd installment so much... Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace fills that childhood void of mine quite well. I know, it's 2D instead of 3D, it's way shorter than anything on the PS1, gameplay is more simple, it doesn't follow a 100% linear level to level structure like in both PS1 installments... and yet, this feels exactly how I'd imagine a 2D translation of that gameplay style to be. I'll admit that gameplay is simple, but it gets Spider-Man's mobility and attacking so well, which is made even better by the level design which, thanks to the power ups you can find to improve Spider-Man, has tons of exploration, without feeling directionless and hard to figure out, I love moving around these levels, beating up bad guys and improving Spider-Man until the final showdown with Mysterio. If you've grown up with either PS1 installment, this is a must play.

I'd say that both sequels improved on the foundation set by Vicarious Visions' original installment, Torus Games went in a completely different direction for the sequel, no upgrades and it has standard levels, which are well designed and fun to explore, while Vicarious Visions' returned for the next installment and polished concepts from their 1st attempt, allowing you to choose the order in which to play levels, again you find items to upgrade Spider-Man, but level design is more compact and enjoyable to play and explore, also both of them have difficulty settings. Don't feel bad about struggling, you shouldn't be too hard on yourself, even a developer apologized in that comment, it's because there were many problems with the video game, not with you, and speaking as someone who completed it for the 1st time recently, I don't see how it could be an enjoyable experience without a guide. If you'd like to give it another shot where you manage to get all upgrades, I'd recommend IGN's guide (https://web.archive.org/web/20090812055445/http://guidesarchive.ign.com/guides/14631/basics.html)) due to it having a map for the sewers, and Legomondo's one as a complement (https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gbc/370571-spider-man/faqs/16982)) as they were the guides that helped me out.
