Pretty appropriate I got that /o/ [eurobeat intensifies] ad up top. Music does make it both special and no longer fit to GoG. What would be the modern equivalent?

I've only really played the Underground games and Hot Pursuit. Between those, I cannot choose, since I like them equally for different reasons.

It is one of my most favorite EA games. The crash events in 3 typically don't last long and are quick/short challenges to collect the icons. The tracks are varied enough for me with the different settings and hazard variety. The easiest takedowns are made with psyche outs, typically with enough speed behind a rival and steering one direction to the other quickly. However, the most enjoyable takedowns are the hard side slams.

It's the colored lights that make the night so attractive. It would be really cool if light trails from the tail lamps, in a style like the Akira animation, could be modded in.

Yeah, since I started with 3, it is nice to experience some tracks from 1 and 2 with the mechanics starting from 3.

That's a mistake which happens often here when I don't backspace enough. Realizing it is not worth going into details, I should have just summed up with: "Prior to its servers being shut down, met a group that was devoted only to its crash mode. They welcomed me, told me of their history/fun anecdotes, guided me towards improved play, and shattered scoring records. Would love to remeet now that the servers were resurrected in secret by some EA employee."

I have not tried that one, but to me the first Underground had that night lit by neon aesthetic that appeals to me in racing games.

I do love the mood and look of cities at night illuminated by all sorts of lights.

CrashFM and DJ Striker knows how amp the game up. I'll feature the next song in the list, great for those hot laps: https://youtu.be/-X3JoVMrOrg

I would normally say R4 for that great "driving at night" feel, but since you said sim, I guess maybe Need for Speed Underground.
