The quality of posts has done dramatically downhill, and now this place just feels like /v/ 2.0.

I personally don't think Marin exists after the Dream Fish wakes, in original or seagull form. I think it's just the memory of her that persists. She was but a dream.

I am looking for a NES game where you play a Ninja with his pet dog/wolf who has to find 7 (?) gems or crystals. In the first level you are in the mountains. You move horizontally and vertically. It is a platformer. There also are shows in the game with a cute anime girl. Does anyone remember this game?

I only recommend two books; one's nice to have (you can buy it), the other indispensable (you can download it).

(1) Programming_the_65816 by David Eyes and Ron Lichty
ISBN 0-89303-789-3
http://www.amazon.com/Programming-65816-Including-65C02-65802/dp/0893037893

(2) SNES Development Manual
http://www.romhacking.net/documents/226/

(1) is a nice reference for 65918, but not necessary to learn it. I could explain some shit in this thread or you could google it. (2) is essential in understanding the SNES hardware and how to use it. It's an official dev manual that someone leaked against trade secret agreements, and I thank them kindly. It's a little bit Engrishy, but mostly understandable.

C (and computers) in general will click much better once you understand how high level languages can be mapped to a specific machine.

I do want to point out my code is emphatically not styled after a C compiler's output, the main difference being I don't use the stack to save local variables if at all possible. I save a few cycles accessing memory by using a statically allocated scratch pad for most locals, at the cost that most of my functions aren't recursive (but they easily could be).

>Maybe if they gave you a starting stock of 100 and said if you lose them all then you lose your save file it would have a purpose.

That fucking Prinny game on the PSP, holy shit. I thought it was a joke, but the joke was on me

>Natsume is probably the shittiest localization studio ever
>Translations are very spotty, lazy
>Sometimes there's completely untranslated bits left in
>Sometimes they add game breaking bugs
>Marvelous buys out XSEED to use as a better inhouse translation team
>Natsume throws a bitchfit and holds the Harvest Moon name hostage
>Releases original, inhouse, shovelware with the Harvest Moon name while Marvelous can't do anything about it legally

But where did it all go wrong?

Yeah, Nintendo-Sony would have steamrolled Sega in two seconds flat most likely if their partnership had continued. We would have lost out on a lot of great titles. Nintendo-Sony would have gotten lazy and uninspired and Sega would spiral out even sooner.

What REALLY would have been interesting is if Sega and Sony had gone through with shacking up after Nintendo dropped the PlayStation. It's not as well-known but Sega was going to work with Sony on the hardware for their Genesis successor until Sega of Japan got arrogant and kiboshed the partnership. Just imagine Sony hardware with Sega software. It would have fucking creamed the N64 (probably somewhere between 60-80% market share) and both Sega-Sony and Nintendo would have came out swinging the next generation. And hopefully Microsoft would have stayed the fuck away from all this forever. What could have been...

It is sheeting rain here, with thunder starting to roll in. Time to find a blanket or thick hoodie, fire up some comfy retro, and listen to it come down.

For those not blessed with rain at the moment:

There are plenty of comfy games in the world, sure, but are there any particularly good for rainy days? Harvest moon is always a classic, especially when the weather matches up with outside. Also taken a liking to Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, due to the relaxed and rather chill atmosphere...any others that really enhance a cold, rainy day?

>played super mario bros so much that memorized how to blaze through literally every level
>even devised challenges for myself like only small-mario runs, all 1-up runs (have to get all the coins in x-3 every world). know how to do them all

but you know what? the game is still somewhat relaxing to me. i feel like it's just so intensely playable that i can just zone out. since its basically muscle memory its like i dont even have to try to beat the entire game. i dont use warps at all
