Seeing images that aren't there is a hallmark of every classic FPS weapon design, and every single mod has something of a "fuck you I can't unsee it" graphic.
The Doom pistol is a gnome. The blood Flaregun is a curvy lady. Hell, it even extends to classic graphics--how many people think Megaman is shooting lemons?
Don't worry about it so much. You're never going to make something that doesn't look like something else, our brains are naturally conditioned to assemble images and break things down into basic shapes to compare to others.
