>No bunnyhopping.
>5 second weapon switching.
>Clunky lockout times or retarded gimmicks on half the weapons.
>Have to gib enemies so they don't block your path.
>Guns don't even shoot toward the center of the screen, most noticeable with projectiles.
>Melee enemies fucking stand still when attacking. How the FUCK do you make melee enemies even more useless than the Pinky 4 years after the fact, and immediately after releasing a game that had decent ones?
>All enemies are pushover retards who can't even hit you, and when they do it tickles.
>The exception is the Gunner, who's only dangerous because you might mistake him for a harmless Berzerker due to shit character design and eat a couple of grenades.
>Even bosses are worthless.
>Nightmare is basically Normal in any other game, and only achieves that level of difficulty by removing a core function of the enemy behavior that made them even easier to deal with.
>Soundtrack is cool for all but 30 minutes and then becomes grating after you hear the same 6 generic metal songs on repeat ad infinitum.

I don't get it. How did Romero leaving make the game a complete fucking failure on a technical level? It isn't even a matter of artistic direction or leveI design, but the core mechanics of literally everything sucking.
