Holy shit I figured it out. I had it right the first time, but you don't type "A_WeaponSound," it's just "WeaponSound."

Pic related is an example of how to use code pointers. This mod replaces the CloseShotgun2 code pointer with one that simply plays a sound, so that the shotgun will no longer fire on the exact frame that the closing sound is played
