The game is more simplistic than Virtua Fighter but I love it as much if not more. At the time Sega AM2 got all the love, but I thought AM3 was better so it is sort of a shame Last Bronx did not get a sequel while Fighting Vipers did. Amongst Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers, and Last Bronx, the character in your pic has best girl as his sister.

I really like it for fighters like Dead or Alive and Last Bronx. It has the 3 primary buttons like in the arcade (hold/free/guard, punch, kick) but has additional buttons for button combination macros. It is like Radiant Silvergun, where the 3 main buttons (vulcan, homing, explosive for ABC respectively) fit the game with the layout having the remaining buttons as macros (X was B+C, Y was A+C, Z was A+B, R = ABC); whereas I did not like or at least the muscle memory conflicted to a diamond layout of the buttons on the 360 default controller in that game.

They got rid of the floaty jumps. It possesses a simple and intuitive gameplay and some of the coolest character designs.

Last Bronx was AM3, which I prefer over AM2 anyway.

Virtua Fighter was pretty popular in Japan and fighting games were dominating the arcades and home video game zeitgeist. For Tekken clones, the Xbox had Kakuto Chojin which is actually pretty cool and I wished it had the opportunity to continue and iterate with improvements. Another Tekken clone is the UFC game on Dreamcast.

I cannot pick a favorite since they each bring their own excellence to the genre that I love. DOA, Project Justice, Bloody Roar, Soul Calibur, and Last Bronx, AKI wrestling games, Garouden, Hajime no Ippo games, Kikaioh, Tobal 2, Power Stone, and Fighters MEGAMiX and probably a lot more retro ones that I couldn't immediately remember can easily be a favorite.

I definitely have nostalgia for the Toshinden series despite its jank. I even had fun with FX Fighter on DOS despite its thrown together nature.

For hidden gem, I'd say Savaki on the Saturn. I found out about the game only in the last decade, and it is surprisingly good. No one ever mentions the game.

I never forgot about it. It is still pretty good, but I do wish the devs had another opportunity for expanding the moveslist giving the characters a greater variety.

Last Bronx is one of my favorite 3D fighting games on Saturn. Yoko's the best girl. I think AM3 always gets overshadowed by AM2 but I feel AM3 games are better. Similar to how I prefer the Soul Edge/Calibur over Tekken, Last Bronx is better than Virtua Fighter.

I remember watching the intro thinking "either this is supposed to be discount Toriyama Akira art, or everyone is tired of staying up overnight". I also think Yoko is best girl.

Yeah, the fighting game was pretty fun too. I remember Itagaki did not have kind words for his successors at Tecmo, and at that time I thought it was just pride and his abrasive attitude in the way. However, given how the direction of the series went since, with the increased focus on different monetary schemes, he may have been right all along.

There have been a lot of cutbacks in their game designs of late. At least there is the VR mode for the more recent ones.

My favorite is AM3. They pretty much did what AM2 did, but better. AM3's games always do something interesting to me but unfortunately have them overshadowed by AM2 all the time. With games like Last Bronx, Sega Rally, Crazy Taxi, and the Virtual On games, they're my choice.

Maybe someone could also use that machine learning, Waifu2x or Esrgan to improve the video and textures too.

I guess I meant to say that I preferred 3D fighting games like DOA and Last Bronx the timelines split and I'm in the one where Tekken is the preferred 3D fighter by everyone else.

>>5992252
Yoko's the best. It was a shame how so many great fighting games disappeared.

>>5992765
Thanks, I think. The Saturn one was my introduction to the series, then later the PS one was released. In those days for Japan, Sony required multi-platform releases to have extra exclusive features for the Playstation release, so Bass and Ayane plus a better character shader. It was new that the limb segemtns were not separate meshes, but one whole weighted object. They did rerelease the game into arcades as Dead or Alive +.

Doesn't that say "Producer who oversaw the arcade, Saturn, and Playstation versions"?
