I'm the same anon, and yeah, hard agree. CTR was one hell of a way to go out, one of my all time favorites. But the magic was over after the PS1 days and it only got worse with time.

I've 100% the originals and remake trilogies and yes, the physics are significantly worse on remake, its very slippery and you will fall from places you didn't in the originals. Stages like the meme bridges in 1 and the ice stages in 2 are pretty awful.

Part of me almost wants to say it was predictive programming. On the other hand, things mentioned in those games were theories and ideas that were already floating around, just not widespread through the internet, which ironically is something MGS2 touches on. Whatever the case may be, I don't think the world will hold on long enough for any of us to die of old age.
