The lyrics are pretty silly, so I prefer using the instrumental versions for gameplay (the replays are the opposite). Despite finding the lyrics kind of cringe in its day, the songs did grow on me. They give the game the extra charm that makes me love the game more.

Unlike PGR which had Microsoft budget, Sega couldn't afford much for songs, so it is still impressive they got some decent licensed songs for their games.

Sonic R is my favorite. It was my introduction to the developers, and demonstrated their programming mastery. It was demoscene-like with effects that seemed impossible with the Saturn hardware. Another British developer that gained favor with me because they were able to do wonders with Sega hardware.

I actually love the game. I am still thankful for winning a random drawing by a website to get it, which may have contributed to me liking the game more that I normally would since it was free. In the options I choose to have the music be instrumental only, but that means the replays if I choose to watch them have vocals which has their own charm, but best to have it not in gameplay to not wear the songs out. The level designs and technical mastery put Traveler's Tales onto the map for me.

I powerslide when I could, typically at turns where the road is wide since hitting walls will cancel it out.

I love these songs with a few of the TJ Davis songs which were on my set playlist in game. I can still picture going around in Tokyo to the music in my head.

I would recommend Metropolis Street Racer since it was around that era. Bizarre did not have the funding to have as extensive car licensing so they put the focus on recreating locales like London, Tokyo, etc. and making interesting tracks with utilization of the real time clock, such that the time of day is accurate dependent on the locale (daytime in USA, it will be night driving in Japan). While Sega did not have much money either to get the top musical artists, they leaned heavily on their specialization of music to have some memorable tracks which you can choose to play as you race. I think the heart put into the game makes it stand out as one of my favorite racers.

There are a lack of courses, but I do find the 5 to be well packed. My taste in games are different than most, as a longer play time doesn't mean a better game to me. If the game isn't for you then you could move on from it even sooner than 25 minutes.

Its technical achievements and music are amazing. I'm very glad I got it from a random prize draw from a random website, probably because everyone else asked to be on the drawing for the Playstation game instead. It is fun enough that I can easily revisit the game and get a full experience in a short go.

There are so many great arcade racing games in the arcade, especially of those from Sega like Sega Super GT and Daytona 2. I also like R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, Outrun: Coast 2 Coast, or Burnout 3 on home consoles. So I wouldn't call it the pinnacle of arcade racing, but it is my favorite racing game on the Dreamcast. I remember being hyped about MSR based on magazine previews, and it ended out living up to the hype. It was my introduction to Bizarre Creations game and they became a favored dev to me. Chilling out playing it on a CRT VGA monitor, passing the controller to friends, telling stories about the locales in the game ... good times.

*correction on pic, there are three songs on the game

It was the closest the Dreamcast had to a Gran Turismo style of game. It distinguished itself by using their budget/time well, instead of focusing on the breadth of cars which was hard to catch up to GT, but rather they recreated some locations pretty well given the Dreamcast's capabilities. It was a very good looking game on VGA. I also enjoyed some of the music too. The same devs made some of my more favorite racing games at the time like the continuation with the Project Gotham games, and eventually the amazing Blur Racerz. The devs also made Fur Fighters and 007 Blood Stone which was pretty decent too.

I remember joking back in the day that Sega was really broke and was only able to afford music from one artist. Unlike Sony's help from the Sony Music group getting all sorts of licensed music for Gran Turismo and the like. Jokes on them, I still liked Sega's one artist anyway as well.

Correction there's 3 songs, not 2, on MSR.

I got this game free from a website giveaway where you can choose your top 3 prizes back in the day. Likely won because no one else wanted Sega Saturn games back then.

I actually liked the game, but I set the in-game to "without lyrics" but that makes the replays with lyrics. It was impressive to me on a visually technical level and demonstrated at that time Traveller's Tales can work magic on the Saturn. I was hyped for MSR based on a couple screenshots in Gamers' Republic Magazine, and fortunately my friend secretly modded my (Asian) Dreamcast while I was sleeping allowing me to play US games, so I got it and was surprised to hear with I through was the same singer for 2 of my most favorite tracks in the game.
