For those of you that either dislike or don't care about shmup, why is that the case? Let's get some myths and excuses out of the way first, just in case:
>shmups are too hard
Some can be, but others are very easy, either because of being easy on the easiest settings, or because they're straight up easy. And besides, many can be played either through emulation or ports that have infinite continues and no checkpoints, so if difficulty is an issue even still, you can resort to credit feeding; the challenge then becomes how many coins you'll need, yet you'll always be able to reach the end.
>shmups are very samey
This doesn't explain why you don't like a single one. Surely, if this was the only issue, you could be a fan of one that you come back to here and there, then disregard the others as samey then.
>shmups are too short
This is not a problem for other short, popular games that aren't shmups.
>shmups don't have RPG elements
Even though most don't, many have cutscenes and a structure with progression systems if that's your thing. It's a vast genre after all. And once again, this is not a problem for other popular non-shmups that lack RPG elements.
>shmups rely on memorization too much
If this is an issue for you, there are plenty of them that don't rely on this, such as the more reactable bullet hell games (despite the name, once again, some can be very easy) or the more randomized shmups out there. And, to reiterate, this doesn't stop other non-shmups that have memorization elements from being popular.

It's OK to dislike them, but it's also time you were honest as to why you dismiss shmups. What's your LEGIT reason for doing so?
