As much as I want Kid to be her own individual, I'm gonna assume they merged at the end because she's the only character who has no parting lines at the end..well, besides Serge, who's the silent protagonist, and Harle, who's a NG+ bonus (possibly a glitch) that isn't supposed to be there at the endgame. That, and RD depicted Kid as a more straightforward incarnation of Schala, so I'll assume the same is true there and Kid just split in CC because of dimensional nonsense.
Besides, "Kid is Schala" makes Schala more interesting (she didn't really have a character in CT besides "stop mother you're depressing") and brings up the theme of nature vs nurture.
