Dimitri is objectively the best OoX animal companion.

Moosh sucks for reasons that have been outlined here already. His attacks are slow because you have to charge up just to use them (makes it almost impossible to hit fast enemies like Tektites and Octoroks). Plus his terrain is awful to traverse and you NEED him to get through it, whereas Dimitri and Ricky's terrain can be easily navigated with the Roc's Feather or Flippers.

Ricky's alright, but he's basically just a mobile Roc's Feather, there's really no reason to pick him but he's not a hindrance like Moosh is at least, and his terrain is easy to get around.

Dimitri is the best because his terrain is extremely simple to navigate if you have the Flippers. He's also capable of doing something Link can never do without Dimitri's assistance - attack while swimming. That's right, you can kill shit on the water while you're swimming. Eat those annoying Zoras, bite those stupid fire flowers and the Water Tektites. The only downside to Dimitri is that attacking causes him to swallow his prey, which means you get no item drops.

Dimitri > Ricky > Moosh
