JESUS FUCK

OH GOD

I had never played this game past the first level. I had no idea. Holy shit. A recap for the uninitiated:

>You get to the final room and McBurglar cries for help, trapped inside a large frame on the wall in the background
>You begin to battle him, as if he is possessed, and it seems to be the final boss
>You defeat McBurglar, he flies down the screen
>The screen fades to black
>This abomination, this gigantic fat horrifying clown with full rows of razor sharp teeth and an ear to ear grin crashes down from the top of the screen and proceeds to fly around, terrorizing against the backdrop which now features an eerie shadow monster figure

Honestly reminds me of Castlevania, how Dracula appears to be the final boss and then a fanged abomination appears when you think it's over. Akumajou Dracula came out in Japan for the Famicom Disk System in September 26, 1986, way before Donald Land, so it's possible it was a direct inspiration, though false surprise bosses were probably a trope even by 1986. But still

GOD DAMN

They don't make them like they used to. Would be something if this was released in the USA and an entire generation of Americans had nghtmares about playing this as a kid. WAY more interesting than McKids.
