>I don't remember many people actually hating HALO
Lol. Lmao. Especially classic fps fans have been seething about Halo for really really long and hard too.

That said, your second sentence about Halo not being the problem but rather other games mindlessly wanting to copy Halo was the actual problem.

>He's gotta get old sometime right?
I disagree because it goes imo against the whole idea of Duke Nukem. He's larger than life, he's an icon, he's a legend. He's superhuman, though not in the lorefaggot sense that it needs explaining like what nuDoom did with Doomslayer, he's just an all around unrestrained badass with a mind of a 15 year old boy, he literally sits down to shit down large alien commanders' necks and inseminates whole neighbourhoods' of babes.

Making him old would be ruining him. Duke should *not* be the everyman or have a moment where he "matures".

If you want pervy old men that kick ass, classic Lo Wang would be better for that.

>Doom maps that go for urban design
I remember playing NeoDOOM and that had some city maps. I've been playing 2048 units of /vr/ and while it's not "lived in Duke3d city maps", I am enjoying the compact and tight design and good fight dynamics.

>You must really lonely anon
Sometimes. But I have a healthy social life.

>Kingpin
I might go for that, yeah. I would love to play SiN but waiting for the remaster.
>Half Life Echoes
Been hearing a lot of good things of that for sure.

>The FEAR A.I was smoke and mirrors even in it's own game
Yeah, I was happy to watch a MandaloreGaming vid where he was dissecting it, not that there's anything wrong with smoke and mirrors because when it comes to videogames they're in the end all about the illusion but it's important to understand how it actually works vs the mythical super A.I that people meme about FEAR. Still a great game btw.

>doesn't like Strife
Eh, more like, I watched Civvie11's vid on it, thought it looked cool but it was never one of those games that I actually played in my childhood unlike DOOM, Shadow Warrior, Duke 3d, Redneck Rampage, Blood (shareware versions) etc.

>pulpy vibe
You know, a little "trashy" comic books, movies etc, usually with some kind of low-brow but spicy vibe.

Like think of Shadow Warrior, the game that just... has fun with it's kung fu and asian tropes and combines it with a little sexy wink wink and ultra violence, has a distinct theme etc.

And how Duke 3d is like a lot of 1980s action hero movies put into a blender and again with some gory violence and a good sprinkling of tiddy.

Is it true that Duke map editor is almost impossible to work with? I've been spitballing ideas for my own Duke maps that I'd want to eventually make into a full map pack and a mod.

>there's a funny trend with shareware games where all the effort goes into the first episode to get you to buy the game, and afterwards the quality drops off because they don't give a shit
It's kind of funny because the shareware episode of course needs to basically have a "distilled awesomeness" vibe to it because it's the best commercial the game can have but I spent half a decade wondering what all kind of exciting things Shores of Hell and Inferno would have and boy were they a let down. Still good tho'.

Duke Nukem 3D was a bit of an exception since while Hollywood Holocaust and Red Light District were really strong levels, the rest of the episode kind of peters out and Shrapnel City / The Birth are more consistent imo.

Hell, even with Blood it felt like the first episode was really good, yes, but the others weren't imo that much worse.
