>games has secrets within secrets within secrets
? if anything it seems like they went overboard with the content in the game.
And not sure how you could like SMB3 but hate SMW's art style. Both games look pretty good. I don't believe you think pic related looks hideous.

>and the world design/side tracks are way cooler
SMB3 has variety in worlds, since they're all different, but SMW actually has the superior map design, where the whole game is interconnected with secret exits, and multiple ways you can play the game depending on which path you choose.
SMB3 lets you choose a path and skip over some levels, but in terms of secrets, there's not much other than the secret map part on world 2 and maybe the canoa part in world 3.
I think the map is one of the strongest points in SMW. I still think it's the best "overworld map" in any platformer game.

Your picture says it all, doesn't it?
GBA games have brighter color palette due to the GBA screen, it looks washed up and pale on emulators.
The screen resolution is also tinier, I haven't played the GBA Mario games and I assume they're still playable, but SNES lets you see more of the screen.
And then there's the sound, GBA has a tinier sound.

The GBA versions have some extras, but IMO the original games are perfect as they are. Leave the extra stuff for a second playthrough maybe, but you're fine playing the OG versions.

SMW > SMB3 > SMB2 > SMB > SML2 > SML > SMB2J

I don't dislike 2J, I've completed it many times and it's fun, but just the one I played the least. It is fun, but it's not necessarily better than the original, which I also like but not as much as the ones that came after it.
I consider Yoshi's Island a whole different beast, even if it does have a lot of elements from SMB2 and World. But if I had to rank it within the mainline Mario games, it would probably be on the top 3, easily.
